iCode: Building It with Computers

Ever wonder how your favorite websites and apps work, how your favorite games are built, or what makes your smartphone and other electronics tick?   In this course we’ll select our favorite technology and take them apart to understand them. Next, we’ll practice the problem-solving techniques people use to make them. Finally, we’ll try building them with free and open-source tools.    All you need is a desktop or laptop, Chromebooks welcome!

Zak Rubin

Zachary Rubin (Zak) is the program director for the IT bachelor’s program at Renton Technical College, where he teaches programming, cybersecurity, and cloud computing. Outside of instruction, Zak has a long history in entertainment, including programming apps for Beyoncé, working on World of Warcraft and Overwatch, building virtual reality arcade machines, producing indie games for Steam and mobile, designing toys, and developing educational Alexa skills.
